Our talented art & photo department explains how the team chose and designed this week’s cover:
The Romney/Book of Mormon cover was designed to capture this cultural moment where Mormonism is in the spotlight—from politics, to theater, to business, etc. With Romney’s presidential campaign announcement last week and the Tony awards just around the corner, this was the perfect opportunity to capitalize on those news stories and create a memorable, eye-catching cover. We wanted to create a movie poster—hence the slanted typography and the clean black, white, and red palette.
I heard an interview on Fresh Air with Terry Gross (the show also has a tumblr!) with the creators of “The Book of Mormon,” and as much as I dislike South Park, I’m really intrigued by this musical…
I’ll definitely be watching the Tony Awards this year to catch a peek at some of the musical numbers (hopefully they’re performing!).
