In light of my current project on plastic bags, I wanted to wish you all a late Plastic Bag-Free Day. Consumers should do this every day, but July 3rd was declared by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives as the day to pledge not to use plastic bags. This organization…

Can’t wait to see what abbeydufoe has in store for her project on plastic bags (recycling, sustainability, environment)!

Yes, you can.

That’s the spirit! Creating change is one of the things on my bucket list. I have to decide where and how first…

Interview with Halima, 11 years old, who sews for Hanes.

Reblogged from: globallabourrights

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I could only watch 4 minutes of this before I had to press pause. Exploiting children to make money disgusts me.

Today, I’m going to check out the link above to Global Labour Rights to learn more about what I can do to help children like Halima. And I’m going to stop buying Hanes products.

Hey tumblr community! I have created this blog to immerse myself in the world of communications, media studies, and mass media. There is so much to learn about my major and college of choice, and I am eager to soak it all in!Always learning something! Abbey

In honor of Tumblr Tuesday, I’m going to make an effort to recommend 3 blogs every Tuesday and let you know why I like them!
abbeydufoe: My homegirl Abbey just started this blog in order learn more about social media and communications. Based on what I know about Ms. Dufoe, this is bound to be a great blog!
mothernaturenetwork: An amazing science-based news source!
letsbethechange: 19 year-old Laura started this tumblr to raise awareness of various global issues, non-profits, and what YOU can do to help change the world!

Zambia, 2010: Two-year-old Bright smiles at his aunt and primary caretaker Leontina in Mulebambushi Village. Bright acquired HIV in utero, and his mother, Yvonne, died of an AIDS-related illness last year. Services to prevent the mother-to-child transmission of HIV are now available in their district, and Bright is receiving life-saving antiretroviral medicines.

As heart-wrenching as the work is, I’m so in love with the idea of working for a non-profit. I wish more of them would get on tumblr!

An ongoing list of charities, etc. on tumblr

I hope that more charities will be joining tumblr’s ranks, so in an effort to raise awareness of different organizations and their missions, I’m creating a list of these groups & their tumblr presence!

That’s all I could find… I would love to see more charities flock to tumblr (charity: water, water.org, Three Avocados, Courtney’s House, One Day’s Wages, etc.). If you have any to add to the list, please comment below!

Keep questioning,
Sara

Edit 7/31 - I need to catalogue/better organize this list… hang tight!
